ISM (International Safety Management)

Initiatives on ISPS

  1. In response to the perceived risks to the ships and the danger of ships being used for terrorist purposes, PNSC successfully implemented the ISPS Code on all its vessels well before the dead line of 1st July 2004. All PNSC managed vessels were audited by Bureau Veritas (RSO) and after being found complaint with the ISPS Code requirements, were issued International Ship Security Certificate.
  2. In compliance with SOLAS "Chapter IX-2" Regulation 6, all PNSC managed vessels have been fitted with "Ship Security Alert System although the requirement for cargo vessels was to have this system installed not later than the first survey of the radio installation after 1 July, 2006.
  3. The PNSC Training Section made arrangements with Bureau Veritas (RSO) to have the CSO and the Ship Security Officers trained and Certified by them. On board PNSC managed ships, it is not unusual to find several officers other than designated SSO who have received approved ship's Security officer's Training.
  4. To ensure the effective implementation of the provisions of the ship security plans, security drills are conducted regularly as per schedule dispatched to the vessels by the Company Security Officer. Additionally ship/shore security drills are frequently conducted to test communications, co-ordination, resource availability and response.
  5. The Training section has also developed ISPS familiarization course in Urdu (National Language) for crew manning the Corporation's managed ships and is also conducting regular ISPS Familiarization Courses.
