Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) being a national flag carrier enjoys a global presence in the shipping world. It undertakes business operations in an internationally competitive environment, competes even for transportation of Pakistani imports/exports and earns most needed foreign exchange for the country. PNSC is continuously augmenting its business growth through expansion of its fleet and contributing its part in fostering economy of Pakistan.

In view of expanding its business spectrum, PNSC has acquired a modern double hull Aframax Tanker in its fleet from SAMOS STEAMSHIP CO. Greece. The tanker owned by Nafsika Maritime S.A Monrovia, Liberia registered under flag of Commonwealth of Bahamas has been delivered to PNSC on 1ST of December 2014 at Singapore. The Honorable High Commissioner, Singapore graced the induction ceremony onboard of the vessel and hoisted Pakistan flag. The “Shalamar” (Ex- Ambelos) was built in November 2006 by Sumitomo Heavy Industries Marine & Engineering Co. Limited, Japan. The tanker will serve as a pre-requisite in the backdrop of the rising demand of crude oil subject to the Contracts of Affreightment with PSO, NPL, PARCO, PRL and Byco. Rising demand of national refineries will not only foster the supply side but also serve the economy by large.

The Aframax tanker Shalamar, 4th in the series after MT Quetta, MT Lahore and MT Karachi, having a length of 228.6 M, breath of 42.0 M meets the parameters of Karachi Port and Port Qasim terminals. The tanker will add 105,315 MT to existing carrying capacity of PNSC fleet raising it from 576,491 DWT to 681,806 DWT, the highest ever since 1979. The enhanced earning capacity of PNSC will serve the country requirement as well as will save the precious foreign exchange reserves of the country as PNSC facilitates its freight payments in Pakistani currency.

PNSC’s vision 2025 is aligned with the business strategy of operating in international competitive markets while catering the needs for all dry and wet imports and exports of the country. PNSC following its fleet development program (2013-2025) aims to enhance and maintain deadweight carrying capacity of over 1.5 million tons by inducting Aframax Tankers, Product tankers, Bulk carriers and a LNG carrier. PNSC welcomes private sector to participate in development of Maritime Sector, particularly the shipping which is pivotal in economic development of any country.
