ISM (International Safety Management)
ISM Code Cell
The function of ISM Code Cell is to monitor and maintain the Safety
Management System (SMS) of PNSC and to work as a secretariat to the
Designated Person(s) Ashore (DPAs).
ISM Code Cell ensures that Corporation's SMS at all times comply with
the objectives and the functional requirements of the ISM Code.
The ISM Code Cell acts as an advisory body to the DPA(s) in matters of
Safety Management System in PNSC. It helps in upgrading and maintaining
of SMS documentation. It also ensures continuous improvement of the SMS.
The ISM Code Cell in compliance with ISM Code requirements, has
developed following SMS Manuals for shore establishment and every ship
of the fleet:
- Safety Management Manual.
- Company Procedures Manual.
- Fleet Instruction Manual.
- Shore based Contingency Plan Manual.
- Shipboard Contingency Plan Manual.
- Safety and Training Manual.
This documentation has been incorporated in the Safety Management System of Pakistan National Shipping Corporation and is subjected to annual review.
Objectives of the ISM CODE CELL
- Monitor and verify SMS activities of PNSC ships and the head office.
- Carry out shipboard and shore based internal Audits of PNSC SMS.
- Investigate reported NCRs with the ship's Masters and the concerned shore based Personnel.
- Carry out review of the SMS.
- Arrange Shore based Safety Committee meetings.
